The Pharaoh Hound, also known as Kelb Tal-Fenek (as it is called in Malta), is one of the oldest domesticated dog breeds in the world! These exquisitely sculpted, athletic sighthounds are thought to be at least 6000 years old. They were originally bred not only to hunt small game, but as a companion animal to the Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt. This breed has been produced since that period heavily on the Mediterranean island of Malta, where its name means "dog of the rabbit." An avid hunter, it cannot be trusted off-leash, as the slightest movement will enable its hunting instinct.
