The English Springer Spaniel is usually either liver and white or black and white, sometimes with freckles. There are two varieties of this breed, the show dog, and the field dog. The field dog has a lot less hair, more white, and more energy. There are some fanciers that desire the two varieties to be entirely separate breeds, but at this point, they are one and the same. He gets his name from "springing" forward to flush game out of the brush for hunters. He is a jovial dog and makes a fine companion as well.
